Packing For a Day at Summer Camp

Packing for a day at summer camp isn’t quite the same as packing for a day at school or a typical day at daycare. Summer camp is the place that kids of all ages get to explore their physical world while learning. Summer camp is all about taking the lessons beyond the classroom and engaging in fun activities.

At Darlene’s Wee Care 4 Kids, our summer camp days are filled with plenty of stimulating hands-on activities and educational games, crafts, and exciting field trips. Follow along in today’s post as we offer a few suggestions of what to include in your kiddo’s summer day camp backpack. Of course, these items should be in addition to what you regularly send along for daycare or before and after school care.

A Fresh Pair Of Clothes

Honestly, it would be best if you pack two! One short sleeve and shorts and one pair of pants. Although we never plan to get all dirty, we do encourage active exploring and messes happen! Sending along a fresh outfit will allow your child’s teacher to make them comfortable after getting messy, but will also allow us to attempt to pre-treat anything that may stain. Our little future paleontologists have been known to get a little dirt on their clothes and our smallest VanGoghs to splatter (water-based) paint every now and again. The change of clothes should include clean underpants and socks, just in case they follow a frog into a puddle!

Drinking Source

Summer in Upper Darby can get quite warm. Help us keep your little ones hydrated by sending along with a bottle or cup for water. Ideally, one that is or can be sealed to prevent sealing. We also recommend writing their name on it for easy identification and loss prevention. Our teachers will provide plenty of cool water and healthy snacks.

Sun Protection

We do everything we can to protect kiddos from the sun including keeping them covered and minimizing direct sun exposure. But, along with exploring the great outdoors comes the sun! We recommend packing a hat, sunglasses, and your preferred sunscreen to keep your little ones protected. Our teachers will make sure that what you provide is used to protect your kids.

A Jacket

In Upper Darby, we all know how quickly a hot July day can turn into a stormy July afternoon, bringing cool rain and a chilling breeze. We suggest always packing a light jacket or sweatshirt so that your children can be comfortable, no matter what Mother Nature has on her agenda.

Other things you can pack include something from home to make them more comfortable — a blanket, toy, or a special note from you — but remember not to pack anything that would be devastating to lose! For special events or field trips, you should be notified in advance and adjustments can be made to your packing list. And, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact our friendly staff. Enroll your children in our summer day camp program today!
